Members of the Support Group for Hon. John Yakubu’s Senatorial ambition on Wednesday called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to begin the process of conducting the much-awaited Edo Central Senatorial by-election in Edo State.
Recall that the Edo Central Senatorial seat became vacant following the election of the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who was the member representing the senatorial district in the National Assembly.
Members of the Support Group comprise men, women, and youths from the five local governments that comprise the senatorial district, who are demanding fairness in the political representation of their district in the Senate.
They decried a situation where the senatorial district that produced men like Chief Anthony Enaholo of blessed memory, who moved the motion for the Independence of this country, is being denied a space in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
Leader of the group, John Oseghale, stated that the 2025 budget was passed in the absence of the Edo Central Senatorial District.
“As we speak now, there’s nothing to show that our district is among the 109 districts that we have in Nigeria,” he said.
The group noted that with the election of Yakubu through the conduct of the by-elections, the Esan voice will once again be heard to the benefit of Nigeria as a nation and Edo State in particular.
They urged Yakubu to keep hope alive, as the people of the senatorial district anxiously await the opportunity to elect him as their next senator.
