The Vice-Chancellor, Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Ibadan, Prof. Timothy Adejumo, has identified entrepreneurship as the solution to the myriad problems confronting the country.
Adejumo stated this at the three-day entrepreneurship week of the university, themed: ‘Spark innovation ignites entrepreneurship’, which focused on innovation masterclasses, business exhibition, and skills showcase.
The VC, who was represented by the Librarian, Dr Olajide Afolabi, said it was imperative for Nigerian youths to embrace entrepreneurship to provide solutions to the nation’s problems.
He said: “Entrepreneurship is the solution to Nigeria’s problems, because necessity is the mother of invention, but I want to say that even innovation is the father of solution. Nigeria today has problems, and if these problems are not addressed, they will remain there.”
Adejumo said the programme was part of efforts by the institution to produce all-round graduates by equipping them with 21st-century entrepreneurial skills.
The Director of the centre, Dr Gbemi Sodeinde, said the programme was to create awareness among the students on the essence of entrepreneurship.
“It is to make the students solution providers. We have people from the industry and entrepreneurs coming to share their experiences,” Sodeinde stated.
In his lecture, Mr Niyi Kolade charged the students to unleash the entrepreneurship spirit in them, reminding them that innovation brings about solutions.
“Entrepreneurship is about solving problems and making a difference. You must move from concepts to commercialisation. Try to be entrepreneurs, not businessmen. It is about impacts. It is the spirit of creativity,” he said.
While speaking on the topic, ‘Entrepreneurship and you’, the guest speaker, Mrs Racheal Salami, urged participants to exhibit the right spirit, noting that with this and strong will, they would transform the society.
