Kano gov, Yusuf, cautions against diversion of discounted fertiliser

Kano State Governor, Abbas Kabiru Yusuf.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has cautioned local council chairmen against the diversion of the discounted fertilisers supplied by the state government to ease farmers’ cost of production.

Yusuf gave the warning in Madobi during the distribution of NPK 50kg fertilisers to farmers across the 44 local councils for the 2025 wet-season farming.

He said the distribution of the agricultural input was intended to ease the cost of agricultural production and uplift smallholder farmers while boosting food security.

The governor, who warned that no act of sabotage would be tolerated, disclosed that three trucks of 1,800 bags of 50kg fertiliser would be distributed to each council.

He said that the provision of the bags of fertiliser and other interventions were the fulfilment of his promises to improve the agricultural system in the state.

He, therefore, directed chairmen of local councils that are entrusted with the distribution to ensure only verifiable and identifiable farmers secure the fertiliser at a 50 per cent discounted cost.

Besides, the governor emphasised the contribution of his administration in the sector, including the rehabilitation of irrigation and the construction of new dams to enable all-year-round agriculture.

On his part, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Tajudeen Othman, commended the initiative of the governor for the early distribution of the farm input.
