Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, remains a thorny issue for Napoli as the club is expected to continue to pay him a hefty €193,000 per week, despite unresolved transfer talks.
Osimhen’s loan spell with Turkish giants, Galatasaray, officially ended, yesterday, leaving him back on Napoli’s roster—despite his clear reluctance to remain with the Italian side.
Unless a new club agreement is struck soon, Osimhen will be expected to join Napoli’s pre-season training camp, even though he has expressed a strong desire not to wear their jersey again.
Galatasaray, who recently secured Leroy Sané as their marquee signing, remain hopeful of bringing Osimhen back on a free transfer and are pushing for a final decision from him.
Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia is said to have entered the fray with a €75 million offer to Napoli, while Galatasaray aim to negotiate that figure down after reaching personal terms with Osimhen.
According to Il Mattino, Osimhen, who was once hailed as a hero, is now seen as a disruptive figure, with his future hanging in the balance.
The report paints a picture of growing frustration within the club: “He was a hero. But now he is an outcast. Between sulks and concerns, Victor Osimhen is still here. No one expected it. Napoli first. From tomorrow still in the paycheck: to be exact, every week that passes from now, Napoli will pay 193,000 euros.”
Despite a €75 million release clause, no club has yet secured Osimhen’s signature. Napoli is reportedly unsure whether to include him in their pre-season retreat in Trentino or leave him training separately at Castel Volturno, echoing last summer’s tensions.
The article also notes that Galatasaray, once interested, grew weary after waiting a month for a response that never came.
According to Il Mattino: “Osimhen is a case. A bad case.”
