Ogun family warns impostors over claim to kingship stool

The Odufowomu/Oguntade Royal Descendants Family of Ado-Sagamu, Ogun State, has distanced itself from a group of individuals allegedly parading themselves as representatives and candidates for the vacant stool of Alado of Ado, Sagamu, Ogun State.

In a statement signed by the overall head of the Odufowomu/ Oguntade Royal Family, Chief Owolabi Oni, and the General Secretary, Saheed Ogunmeru, on Sunday, July 6, 2025, the royal family described the actions of the individuals as misleading and illegal, noting that a case for a court injunction restraining them from making such claims had been filed.

“A case, on June 30, 2025, has been filed against those parading themselves and members of their families as Odufowomu/Oguntade Royal Family,” the statement said.

Noting that the individuals had no affiliation with the royal family and were not entitled to benefit from any traditional rights or titles designated for genuine descendants of the ruling house, the royal family, in the statement, urged the public, especially traditional institutions, government agencies, and residents of Sagamu, to disregard any claims made by the impostors regarding the Alado stool as they are not members of the Odufowomu/Oguntade Royal Family.

The statement added, “They also have no entitlement to the rights and benefits related to the Odufowomu/ Oguntade Royal Family. They have no right to provide candidates to fill vacancies in the chieftaincy title of Alado of Ado Chieftaincy or any chieftaincy title, which is exclusively for the members of Odufowomu/Oguntade Ruling House.”

The Alado of Ado stool became vacant following the passage of the last monarch, and the process to install a new traditional ruler has since commenced.

The Odufowomu/Oguntade Royal Family reaffirmed its commitment to upholding tradition, law, and order in the succession process, and called on the appropriate authorities to remain vigilant against impostors seeking to hijack the revered institution for personal gain.
