Minister hails Buhari’s commitment to national security

The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a true patriot whose leadership reshaped the country’s security architecture.

Gaidam extended his heartfelt sympathies to the Buhari family, the government, and the Nigerian people, mourning the loss of a statesman whose legacy continues to resonate across the nation.

“The Ministry of Police Affairs and the entire Police Ecosystem share in this moment of grief with the family, the people of Nigeria, and the nation at large,” Gaidam stated, noting that President Buhari’s tenure was marked by critical reforms and unwavering dedication to public service.

The Minister highlighted Buhari’s significant role in strengthening national security, particularly his decision to re-establish the Ministry of Police Affairs as an independent ministry.

According to Gaidam, the former president’s action was driven by a clear vision to reposition the Nigeria Police Force and enhance its efficiency.

“He not only revived the ministry but also approved critical funding to ensure regular fuel supply for police operational vehicles across the country,” Gaidam said.

“These actions exemplify his deep commitment to the well-being of Nigerians and the safety of our communities.”

While acknowledging the pain of the moment, Gaidam called on Nigerians to draw strength from the life and legacy of the late president, describing him as a leader who served with honor, discipline, and integrity.

“This is indeed a profound loss. His legacy will endure through his tireless efforts to serve Nigeria. His spirit of leadership will continue to inspire generations to come,” he said.

Buhari passed away in London earlier on Sunday, leaving behind a record of service as a former military Head of State and two-term civilian president who governed from 2015 to 2023.

Gaidam concluded his tribute with prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul and comfort for his family and the nation.

“His remarkable contributions to our country will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace,” the Minister said.
