Taraba women urged to break barriers

Professional women across diverse fields in Taraba State have called on young women to boldly pursue careers and leadership roles without compromise, emphasizing that no goal is beyond their reach.

The call was made during the maiden edition of the Professional Summit 2025, organised by the Young Professional Forum of the Deeper Life Bible Church, held under the sunlit roofs of Deeper Life Church in Jalingo, the state capital.

The summit, themed “Stepping Out,” gathered professionals from law, medicine, fashion design, academia, and public service, who shared experiences and encouraged younger women to challenge societal limits.

Pastor Chike Onwuasonya, State Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Taraba North, urged young women not to succumb to societal pressures or shortcuts in achieving their dreams.

“We want young women to know they can reach any height they dream of,” he said. “You don’t need to sell your body or cut corners to actualise your dreams. Let your heart guide you, not just your eyes, and God will always come to your rescue.”

He also highlighted the importance of mentorship in guiding young professionals through distractions and challenges, urging experienced women to support those coming behind them.

Professor Elkanah Obadiah Sambo, President of the Young Professional Forum, Taraba State Chapter, described the summit as a platform to inspire purpose and diligence among youths.

Citing the biblical story of Ruth, he stressed that hard work and courage can transform both individual lives and communities.

“This summit is geared towards impacting positively on the young ones in the society,” Sambo said.

In a keynote message delivered through Justice Esther Tata, the Chief Judge of Taraba State High Court, Justice Clara Kataps, warned women against allowing inferiority complexes to hold them back.

“Ruth would have remained in the dark if she had not stepped out to pursue her dreams,” Justice Tata said, urging women to believe in themselves and embrace visibility in society.

Similarly, Dr. Augustina Godwin, Commissioner of Basic Education, challenged women to leave their comfort zones, pursue education, and acquire skills that empower them both socially and economically.

“Cease procrastinating,” she advised. “Women who step out with God have no limits.”

The event also featured contributions from members of the Federation of Women Lawyers, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, women in academia, and other professionals, all united in emphasising that “stepping out” is crucial for women’s advancement.
