Residents of the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency will once again benefit from Hon. Akin Alabi’s Free Eye Testing, Glasses, and Surgery Programme, with preparations for the 2025 edition now underway.
The annual medical outreach, which has positively impacted thousands since it began, is scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 1, 2025. This year’s program will be conducted across five different locations, making it easier for residents to access the services without traveling long distances.
According to a statement by Akin Alabi Media Office, Alabi, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Works, confirmed the kickoff date and reiterated his commitment to quality healthcare at the grassroots level.
“We will kick off this year’s edition of our free eye testing, glasses, and surgery program on the 28th of this month. Our target for 2025 is to reach 5,000 people,” Alabi stated.
Over the years, the programme has become a cornerstone of healthcare support in the constituency, providing free eye tests, prescription glasses, and surgical procedures for conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma, particularly for elderly citizens and economically disadvantaged residents.
A statement from Akin Alabi Media Office said: “To ensure convenience and broad access, the programme will be held at the following venues by 9:00 a.m. July 28: Seventh Day Adventist Campsite, Erunmu Community; July 29: Ajiwogbo Town Hall, Ajiwogbo Community; July 30: Egbeda APC party office, opposite Toun Hospital, Iwo Road; July 31: Open space, opposite Ajao Road, Sawia Olounshogo; and August 1: Chief Diran Alabi’s House, Breweries.”
Reacting to this initiative, Hon. Adebowale Amoo JP, the Director-General of the Akin Alabi Campaign Organisation, lauded the lawmaker’s dedication to prioritizing community health.
“This is not the first time Hon. Akin Alabi has led such a program. It has become a tradition in Egbeda and Ona-Ara. Year after year, he has been restoring sight and bringing hope to those who thought they would live with eye problems forever,” Amoo said.
“The beauty of this initiative is that it is accessible to everyone. Whether it’s testing, glasses, or surgery, all services are provided free of charge. The fact that the 2025 edition will cover five different locations shows how much consideration he has for the people.”
Since its inception, the Akin Alabi Free Eye Testing, Glasses, and Surgery Programme has helped thousands regain their sight and improve their quality of life. It stands as one of the most impactful medical outreach programs in Oyo State, particularly for vulnerable groups who often lack access to affordable healthcare.
According to Alabi, the 2025 edition is set to mark another crossroads in his commitment to community healthcare delivery.
“This programme has brought hope to many, and we are determined to do even more this year. By the grace of God, we will begin on the 28th of this month and aim to reach 5,000 people in this edition,” he said.
