JESUS’ purpose was to do the will of God, not to satisfy his personal desires. When we follow Jesus, we should have the same purpose.
“Jesus said to them: “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work,” (Jn 4:34).
The “food” about which Jesus was speaking was his spiritual nourishment. It goes beyond Bible study, prayer and attending church. Spiritual nourishment also comes from doing God’s will and helping to bring his work of salvation to completion. We are nourished not only by what we take in, but also by what we give out for God. In 17:4, Jesus refers to completing God’s work on earth.
“All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him,” (Luke 10:22).
Christ’s mission was to reveal God the Father to the people. His words brought difficult ideas down to earth. He explained God’s love through parables, teachings and, most of all, his life. By examining Jesus’ actions, principles and attitudes, we can clearly understand God the more.
What does it mean to do those things that please God?
We must not work independently of God the Father, but in union with Him. The only way to work in union with God is to allow His Holy Spirit, who lives inside us to control our lives. Hence, we should operate from “inside out” not from “outside in.”
(4.5) An example of the type of love Jesus desires
Jesus Visits Mary And Martha (Read Luke 10:38-42)
“But one thing is needful, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her,” (Luke 10:42).
Luke10:38-42 shows that Mary and Martha both loved Jesus. On this occasion they were both serving him. But Martha thought Mary’s style of serving was inferior to hers. She didn’t realise that in her desire to serve, she was actually neglecting her guest. Are you so busy doing things for Jesus that you’re not spending any time with him? Don’t let your service become self-serving.
In Luke 10:41,42 Jesus did not blame Martha for being concerned about household chores. He was only asking her to set priorities. It is possible for service to Christ to degenerate into mere busywork that is no longer full of devotion to God. Although active, practical service to God is essential and good, our first and most important task is a love and devotion that expresses itself in quiet worship, prayer and fellowship with the Lord (see Matt. 26:13). Are we so busy doing the work of the Lord, attending church services and performing good deeds that we neglect God,Himself.
