The Super Falcons lit up the city of Lagos yesterday as they paraded the streets with the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy, celebrating their latest continental triumph with jubilant fans.
The players were given a rousing welcome as a jubilant crowd gathered at the airport and along major routes, cheering and waving as the players arrived in the city, proudly carrying the coveted WAFCON trophy.
Fresh from being honoured by President Bola Tinubu with national awards, including the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), the nine-time African champions were welcomed with cheers, drums, and dance as their convoy made its way through major parts of the city.
The parade served as both a victory tour and a moment of appreciation for the fans whose unwavering support played a key role throughout the tournament.
The energy in Lagos was electric, with fans, local officials, and football enthusiasts turning out in large numbers to show their appreciation. Drummers, dancers, and supporters decked in green and white lined the streets as the Falcons’ bus made its way through the city.
This marks the 11th WAFCON title for the Super Falcons, extending their record as the most decorated women’s national team in Africa. The Lagos State Government has announced plans to host the champions, with a trophy parade lined up as a highlight of their visit.
