Ikorodu monarch confers Iya Oba chieftaincy title on Remi Tinubu

The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, has conferred the chieftaincy title of Iya Oba of Ikorodu on Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as part of activities marking his 10th coronation anniversary.

The ceremony, held in Ikorodu on Saturday, was attended by traditional rulers, political leaders, and dignitaries from across the country. Senator Tinubu was represented by the wife of the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Oluremi Hamzat.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to his royal majesty, the royal families and the good people of Ikorodu for finding me worthy of this distinguished recognition,” Tinubu said. “This gesture is not only a personal honour, but a call to continued service. The title of Iya Oba carries with it, not just prestige, but also a responsibility.”

She acknowledged the cultural importance of the title, describing Ikorodu as “holding a special place in the heart of Lagos” and noted its history of producing generations of industrious people.

In his remarks, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau commended Oba Shotobi for inclusive leadership, stating that his reign had brought many Ikorodu indigenes to national prominence.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Akarigbo of Remo, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, and Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, retired Brigadier-General Buba Marwa, also lauded the monarch’s leadership over the past decade.

The conferment formed part of a series of anniversary activities that began on August 2, celebrating a decade of Shotobi’s reign as Ayangburen of Ikorodu.
