Report proliferation of small arms, light weapons, FG urges NYSC members

The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), Northeast Zonal Centre, under the Office of the National Security Adviser, has charged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to report any form of proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the country.

Northeast Zonal Coordinator, NCCSALW Northeast Zonal Centre, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Adamu (rtd) made the appeal at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Bauchi yesterday.

He emphasised that with the involvement of the youth, especially corps members, in fighting the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), insecurity issues would be a thing of the past.

Adamu explained that the NCCSALW was established in 2021 as the institutional framework for the regulation and control of SALW in the country.

Represented by the Assistant Director, Strategic Communication and Information, Adamu Saleh, the zonal coordinator said the proliferation of these small arms and light weapons increases banditry, kidnapping, cultism, political thuggery and all sorts of insecurity in the country.

He pleaded: “Please, when you have been posted out to your various places of primary assignment, look into these things, be a good ambassador of your parents.
