The City of Brampton came alive with vibrant sights, sounds, and tastes as the Flavours of Nigeria Festival returned for its second edition at Gage Park, offering a mind-blowing celebration of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and tourism potential.
The event opened with a warm welcome from the festival’s convener, Mr. Chukwuebuka Anyaduba, who reaffirmed that the festival’s purpose is to “promote cultural diversity and export Nigeria’s tourism and culture to the world.” Anyaduba emphasised that Flavours of Nigeria is more than a food event; it is a complete showcase of Nigeria’s rich cultural tapestry, spanning gastronomy, music, fashion, arts, and crafts.
The festival’s electrifying lineup featured performances from the Afrikan Peach Cultural Group, Ugandan Cultural Troupe, Bepraise Sax, Shemilore, and more. The high point of the day was the spectacular arrival of the Ike ka Ike masquerade, from Nigeria, captivating the crowd with its regal presence. Guests were also treated to a mouthwatering display of Nigeria’s culinary excellence, as food vendors served authentic dishes representing the nation’s diverse gastronomy. Nigerian fashion, art, and craft vendors added to the festival’s immersive cultural experience.
This year’s edition carried the theme “A Cultural Voyage”, spotlighting the Benin Culture of Edo State, one of Nigeria’s most notable heritages.
The event drew hundreds of attendees, including Nigerians, Caribbeans, Canadians, and guests from other African countries, all united in celebrating Nigeria’s heritage. The Nigerian High Commission in Canada was in attendance and represented by the Charge de Affairs Ambassador Abba Zanna-Kawu.
