Police warn against violence during Kaduna bye-elections

The Kaduna State Police Command has cautioned residents against any form of violence during today’s bye-elections, warning that security operatives will deal decisively with troublemakers.

In a statement issued a few hours before the polls, the Police said it had received credible intelligence that some politicians and their supporters were plotting to disrupt the process. It stressed that such actions would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Spokesman of the Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, said: “Anyone, no matter how highly placed, who engages in violence, intimidation, vote-buying, thuggery, or any form of disruption will be arrested immediately and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

He disclosed that robust security arrangements had been made in collaboration with other sister agencies, with personnel deployed to polling units, collation centres, flashpoints, and strategic locations.

According to him, officers have been directed to be firm, professional, and uncompromising in dealing with individuals or groups seeking to undermine the peace and orderliness of the elections.

Hassan added that the Commissioner of Police has warned political actors, party loyalists, and supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and desist from acts capable of triggering unrest.

“The Command urges all law-abiding citizens to go out and cast their votes without fear or intimidation, as adequate security has been put in place to protect them and ensure a credible electoral process,” he said.
