OPFY troops repel terrorist attacks in Kebbi, Katsina

Operation Fansan Yamma (JTF NW OPFY)

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, (JTF NW OPFY), have successfully thwarted multiple terrorist attacks across Katsina and Kebbi States.

In a series of coordinated operations, troops neutralized two terrorists, rescued abducted construction workers, recovered arms and operational motorcycles, and supported the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in a targeted illicit drug intercept.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer Joint Task Force, North-west OPFY, Lt Colonel Aliyu Danja and made available to newsmen in Gusau, Zamfara State capital.

According to the statement, on 14th August 2026, troops of Sector 2 responded swiftly to reported terrorist activities in the Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Following a fierce firefight, the troops neutralized two terrorists, forcing the remaining elements to retreat and flee the area. During the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle and a magazine*, the statement added.

In a separate engagement under Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV in southern Kebbi State, troops responded to a distress call on the abduction of construction workers at Tsatsunbe village. The rapid mobilization and subsequent engagement by the troops forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee, leaving behind three motorcycles.

All construction workers were successfully rescued and safely returned to their camp. One worker who sustained an injury during the incident was promptly evacuated to a military medical facility and is currently receiving treatment.

Furthermore, demonstrating the Task Force’s commitment to inter-agency cooperation, troops in Katsina State supported the operative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Malumfashi Area Command in a joint raid on a suspected drug peddler’s hideout in Gozaki village, Kafur Local Government Area.

The operation resulted in the recovery of significant quantities of illicit drugs, which are now in the custody of the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary action.

These recent successes underscore the unwavering determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect local communities, safeguard critical economic activities, and deny terrorists and criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.

The Theatre Command remains resolute in its mission to relentlessly pursue criminal elements, defend vulnerable populations, and foster a secure environment where citizens can conduct their legitimate daily activities without fear.
