Nigerian-American actress and filmmaker Joy Sunday has returned in the second season of Netflix’s record-breaking gothic comedy, Wednesday, reprising her role as Bianca Barclay.

The 28-year-old, whose parents migrated from Nigeria to the United States in the 1970s, first gained global recognition in season one as the confident queen bee of Nevermore Academy and rival to Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega.

Part one of season two is already streaming, while part two is scheduled to premiere on September 3.

Speaking with Glamour magazine earlier this month, Sunday disclosed that her character takes a different trajectory in the new season.

“I’m really happy that people get to become more intimately acquainted with her history,” she said. “The Bianca that I met when I first got the script versus who she is now – there’s such a difference. In season one, she’s kind of built a wall and acts as if she doesn’t need anything. But now we get to understand … the vulnerability and insecurities that she’s facing.”

Born in September 1996, Sunday grew up in Staten Island, New York, where she nurtured her passion for storytelling from an early age.
