The 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ikeja, yesterday handed over a 36-year-old man, Animashaun Khalid, to the Lagos State Police Command after he was arrested for impersonating an Army Major.
Khalid was apprehended at the Arena Market, Oshodi, with a forged Nigerian Army identity card bearing his name and the rank of Major. Soldiers who intercepted him immediately transferred him to the police in what officials described as a seamless operation.
The case has been assigned to Special Squad I for a detailed investigation to trace the source of the forged identity card, identify possible accomplices, and establish whether the suspect used the fake rank to commit other offences.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the matter would be charged in court after the investigations are concluded.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the Army for the arrest and prompt handover, describing it as a demonstration of synergy among security agencies. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, assuring that continued collaboration between security forces would strengthen safety in the state.
