Police arrest operatives in viral video for extortion

The Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, has confirmed the arrest of police operatives captured in a viral video allegedly extorting money from motorists.

In the footage, which surfaced on social media, the officers were seen counting bundles of naira notes inside a parked police truck bearing the inscription, “Nigeria Police Force Area Command, Asaba.”

Reacting to the viral clip shared by an X user, Edafe stated that the officers had been identified and apprehended.

“The policemen in the embarrassing video have been identified and arrested. They appeared before the Commissioner of Police today. Of the four personnel, two who are senior officers have been queried, while the two inspectors have been detained and are awaiting orderly room trial,” Edafe wrote on his official X handle.

He also posted a picture of the four operatives with their backs turned to the camera.

The development has, however, sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users demanding more transparency from the police.

One user commented, “No face, no names. Nothing to prove this write-up but it’s well.” Another added, “No face, no case. What are their names too? Lol.”

The Delta State Police Command has yet to release the full identities of the arrested operatives as disciplinary proceedings continue.
