Delta: Itsekiri leaders seek review of delineation in Warri Federal Constituency

Leaders of Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality in Delta State are seeking a review of delineation in Warri Federal Constituency. They frown at an alleged fraudulent attempt by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rob them of what “belongs to them in the proposed delineation of wards and polling units in Warri Federal Constituency.”

They spoke at press conferences on national televisions, where “Google map was used to expose an alleged INEC bias in allocating wards and polling units outside Delta State, to as far as Edo and Ondo states, to favour the Ijaw and Urhobo communities.”

In the presentation, a Geo-data expert, Mr. Bright Omaghomi and Mrs. Tsaye Edeyibo Mene, pointed out that the document containing lists of wards and units, as provided by INEC, did not support the reality on ground, as fictitious wards and units from other areas and states were allegedly smuggled into INEC’s certified document to hoodwink the public.

They further argued that the indigenous Ijaw and Urhobo people of Warri Federal Constituency claim did not align with facts of history and making demands, which are unjust and lack the attributes to equity.

They said: “We consider it a severe disservice on our part, if we do not present the facts for the benefit of the discerning public who, undoubtedly, love righteousness and equity.

“Such that one would, therefore, not be misled to unwittingly draw the wrong conclusions that could lead to some injustice, whether of opinions and/or actions, which could have been drawn from defective exactitude.”

Meanwhile, a communiqué at the end of the press conference held in Preston Royal Event Centre, Warri, Warri South Local Council, on Monday, and presented by Chief Brown Mene on behalf of Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality, noted that the people are not against the Supreme Court judgment but they demand fairness, equity, and justice from INEC in this regard.

According to the communiqué, there is much bias and illegality that are associated with execution of the said judgment, which revealed, going by the co-ordinates, the polling units and wards created by INEC do not correspond with the actual location on ground.

In the communiqué, Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality called on the Federal Government to set up an independent Commission of Inquiry to prove INEC’s action on the re-delineation exercise.

Part of the communiqué reads: “ As law- abiding citizens, we are not against the execution of Supreme Court’s order on the re-delineation of Warri Federal Constituency Polling Units, Wards, we demand fairness, equity and justice from INEC”

“We reject the proposal of April 4, 2025 on polling units and wards delineation in its entity. The people also demand that after the thorough investigation, any of the officers found wanting in the entire exercise should be disciplined to serve as deterrent to others. ”

The people also demand an immediate implementation of all judicial decisions in Warri Federal Constituency, including the Court of Appeal’s judgment on the 10- ward structure of Warri South Local Council.

The press conference was attended by many illustrious sons and daughters of the Iwere land, including former Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Vincent Uduaghan, among others.
