President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, as Director of Air Mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential re-election campaign.
Under the new arrangement, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, will serve as Deputy Director I, while Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar has been appointed Deputy Director II.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued on Sunday by Keyamo’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood.

According to the statement, the appointments reflect the strategic importance of air transportation, operational coordination and aviation logistics in organising a nationwide presidential campaign across Nigeria.

The Directorate of Air Mobilisation is expected to coordinate air travel requirements for the campaign, facilitate travel arrangements for designated officials and personnel, and oversee aviation logistics for campaign activities across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

It is also expected to work with other campaign directorates and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective scheduling, efficient deployment of logistical resources and smooth coordination of campaign movements, particularly where campaign officials are required to visit multiple locations within tight schedules.

The statement said Keyamo’s appointment would bring aviation-sector policy and operational experience to the campaign structure, citing his role as the serving aviation minister and his involvement in initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s aviation industry, improving its international standing and positioning the country as a major aviation hub in Africa.

“His familiarity with the operational demands of the aviation industry is expected to provide useful leadership in coordinating the directorate’s activities and establishing an effective framework for air-mobilisation planning,” the statement said.

It added that the appointments of Kuku and Umar would bring aviation-sector leadership and technical expertise to the directorate, strengthening its capacity to manage the logistical demands of nationwide campaign movements.

The statement further noted that the directorate’s responsibilities would include structured planning, coordination with relevant stakeholders, efficient scheduling and appropriate logistical arrangements to support the broader campaign organisation.

However, it stressed that the directorate’s effectiveness would depend on collaboration with other campaign structures, clear operational procedures and compliance with aviation safety requirements and applicable laws governing political campaigns.

The statement also emphasised the need to maintain a clear distinction between campaign operations and official government functions, noting that campaign-related arrangements must be carried out through properly authorised channels.

Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign is being organised through the APC Presidential Campaign Council, which brings together political leaders and designated directorates to coordinate the party’s preparations for the forthcoming general election.
