Police deny bank robbery report in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has categorically denied a report circulating online about a bank robbery in Port Harcourt City on September 23, 2025.

In a statement released by the Command Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, described the report as “false and misleading” and urged the public to disregard it entirely.

According to her, no incident of armed robbery occurred anywhere in Port Harcourt or Rivers State, emphasising that the fake news was designed to cause unnecessary panic and fear among residents.

She said: “The Command categorically states that no such incident occurred anywhere in Port Harcourt or Rivers State. This fake news is clearly designed to cause unnecessary panic and fear among residents. We urge the public to disregard the report in its entirety and refrain from sharing such unverified information.”

She assured the public that their men are on constant patrols and are on alert, ensuring the safety and security of all residents. She encouraged citizens to verify news from official sources before circulating it to avoid spreading false information.

Also, she warned that anyone found deliberately spreading false information to incite fear or cause apprehension would face the law. They advised residents to rely only on official statements from the Police Command for credible updates.
