Nwifuru’s wife donates bungalow to Ebonyi widow who lost six children

A widow in Ebonyi State, Mrs Ogbuinya, who had lost six of her children and lived in a makeshift shelter, has received a three-bedroom bungalow from the wife of the state governor, Mrs Uzoamaka Nwifuru.

Ogbuinya, who hails from Amagu Onicha in Onicha Local Council, was handed the keys to her new home during a ceremony at her residence. Overwhelmed with joy, she expressed gratitude to the governor’s wife for her support and commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable women in the state.

The Guardian learnt that Mrs Nwifuru, through her foundation, Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons (BERWO), has built 26 three-bedroom bungalows for widows across the 13 local council areas of the state.

Speaking at the event, the governor’s wife described the initiative as a “dream come true” and a key milestone in fulfilling BERWO’s objectives. She reaffirmed her commitment to restoring hope and providing security for widows in Ebonyi.

“This is in fulfillment of BERWO’s objective to uplift the lives of widows in society. I am happy it’s achieved,” she said.

The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Francis Ori, explained that the project provided two three-bedroom bungalows in each of the state’s 13 local government areas. He noted that the initiative targeted the most vulnerable groups in society and commended the governor’s wife for her people-centred interventions and vision.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Josephine Ekoyo from Ndiegu Azu Echara in Ikwo Local Council, also received the keys to a new home.

She shared that she had lived in a shanty for several years and thanked Mrs Nwifuru and the state government for their compassion and support for vulnerable citizens.
