Foundation seeks growth of education, organises interschool debate in Ibadan

As part of efforts aimed at improving the growth of education in the country, members of the Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial (DOAM) Foundation recently organised an inter-school debate competition in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The competition brought together brilliant students from four secondary schools, namely: Community Grammar School, Oba Akinbiyi High School 2, Saint Brigid’s Grammar School, and Saint Gabriel Commercial Secondary School.

Designed to foster intellectual engagement, public speaking skills, and critical thinking among students, the event saw representatives from each school present their arguments on the topic “Corruption, who is to blame? Government or the Citizens”

After a series of thought-provoking rounds and impressive presentations, Oba Akinbiyi High School 2 emerged as the overall winner, earning praise from the judges for their eloquence, confidence, and logical reasoning.

The Programme Team Lead, Catherine Olukotun ,commended all participants for their enthusiasm and creativity, emphasising the foundation’s commitment to empowering young minds through educational initiatives.

She said: “The DOAM Foundation extends its gratitude to all participating schools, sponsors, and organisers for making this event a success. This initiative underscores the importance of empowering young minds to shape the future of Nigeria through informed discourse and collective action”.

On her part, Education Officer for DOAM Foundation, Bukunmi Osunsina, said, “We believe platforms like this help students develop their voices and shape their leadership potential.”

Certificates of participation and awards were presented to all contestants and winners. The event concluded with a photo session and networking among students and teachers from the participating schools
