Infrastructure and technology firm, Langovest Limited, has deployed a water filtration and purification station in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to address challenges around access to affordable and purified drinking water in the city.

The company’s Business Development Lead and Chief Legal Officer, David Amafina, who spoke during the launch of the AquaPoint Evergreen Station on Bende Street, said the facility was designed to provide residents and businesses in the area with access to clean drinking water at an affordable rate.

Amafina said the deployment was the company’s first AquaPoint project in Rivers State and the South-South region, following the installation of its pilot station at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

He said the station, located opposite the sports centre on Bende Street, would serve residents and businesses within Bende Street and the surrounding Aggrey Road and Creek Road axis.

Amafina said the AquaPoint system combines reverse osmosis, ozone sterilisation, ultraviolet sterilisation and carbon filtration to support the production of clean drinking water, while its real-time monitoring capabilities allow its operational status and water quality processes to be monitored continuously.

The CEO of Evergreen Station, Paul Njoku, said the investment was driven by the company’s interest in automation and its commitment to community development.

Njoku said residents would be able to access purified drinking water for ₦30 per litre, stressing that clean water should be treated as a basic need rather than a luxury.

“We firmly believe that clean water should never be treated as a luxury; it is a basic human need, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it,” he said.

The founder and CEO of Langovest Limited, Kelvin Amafina, said the project also had an environmental objective of reducing dependence on sachet water and the plastic waste associated with its disposal.

“As an environmental initiative, our hope is that the machine reduces the need for sachet water, which, as we all know, is an environmental burden in Nigeria,” he said.

Amafina said AquaPoint was the company’s first project in the water sector, adding that Langovest was also developing initiatives focused on waste management and food security and seeking partnerships with governments, development agencies and other stakeholders.
