Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, has apologised and clarified her statement about introducing her teenage daughter, Similoluwa, to alcohol.

The actress addressed the issue on Sunday in a video posted on her Instagram page, two days before her birthday.
According to her, the viral statement was a “slip of tongue” during an interview, stressing that neither she nor her daughter drinks alcohol.

She said, “She’s still a minor, she’s still a young girl, she doesn’t take alcohol. I don’t take alcohol either. For the clubbing, yes, the clubbing happened, and that was after party of our own birthday. But no alcohol was involved, I didn’t take alcohol, I didn’t introduce alcohol. I didn’t know I said it, but video was sent to me where I said it, but it was a slip of tongue. I didn’t mean to say that. Such never happened, I didn’t introduce her to alcohol at all. I would never do that.”

Bakare explained that her daughter also felt hurt by the accusations, noting that the viral narrative painted a false picture.

She apologised to parents who felt disappointed by her earlier comments.

She said, “The little girl felt bad as well, she doesn’t like to be put out there as a teenage girl using alcohol at her young age. Usually we just say sorry Semi, sorry to parents that feel like being drunk with that step. Honestly, that’s why it takes time for me to be able to tell you.”

The actress maintained that the club visit was part of her daughter’s birthday after party and had nothing to do with underage drinking.
