The convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, was re-arraigned before a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, yesterday, over the alleged murder of two police officers.
Evans was re-arraigned alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Ikenna Emeka, before Justice Oyindamola Ogala on a five-count charge filed by the Lagos State Government.
The charges border on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping, contrary to Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
According to the prosecution, the defendants allegedly killed Peter Nwaeke on March 28, 2013, at about 10:00 p.m. along 3rd Avenue, Festac Town, within the Ikeja Judicial Division of Lagos State. Evans was also accused of killing Chijioke Ngozi on August 27, 2013, at the same location.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges. At the resumed hearing, the prosecution counsel, Mr O. A. Azeez, informed the court that the case had previously been before Justice Adenike Coker, who was currently on national assignment, prompting the reassignment of the case file.
Counsel to the first defendant, Mr O. Charity, confirmed that the case was formerly before Justice Coker, while Mr M. C. Onyechiofor appeared for the second defendant.
Justice Ogala granted the prosecution’s request for re-arraignment, after which the defendants again entered not-guilty pleas. The judge subsequently adjourned the matter to November 19, 2025, for hearing and issuance of a witness summons.
Evans is currently facing five separate criminal trials on charges of kidnapping and murder, and has already been convicted in two of them.
