Constituency projects: PWI lauds Ekpenyong, Musa as outstanding legislators

The Parliamentary Watch Initiative (PWI), a non-partisan civil society organization promoting legislative accountability in Nigeria, has commended three senators for their exemplary delivery on constituency projects and national reforms during the 10th National Assembly.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Tanko Yerima, the group hailed Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong (Cross River South), Sani Musa (Niger East), and Ipalibo Banigo (Rivers West) as “trailblazers and seasoned leaders who embody the Renewed Hope agenda through tangible impacts on their constituents and the nation.”

Yerima described Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), as a model of grassroots innovation since his inauguration in June 2023. His record includes the installation of 6,870 solar-powered streetlights across 156 locations, construction of 11 new roads totaling 16 kilometers, and rehabilitation of eight key thoroughfares in Calabar.

“Ekpenyong’s water security projects include seven solar-powered boreholes across the seven local government areas, while the ongoing construction of Odukpani Police Station aims to bolster community safety,” Yerima said.

He also lauded the senator’s medical outreaches benefiting over 4,400 residents, scholarships for 1,700 students, and two new NITDA Digital Economy Centres.

On the national stage, Ekpenyong sponsored the Factoring Regulation Bill, 2024 (SB.474), aimed at unlocking over $1 billion annually in financing for MSMEs.

In Niger East, Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, was praised for promoting fiscal discipline and grassroots empowerment. His projects include classroom renovations, ICT centres, scholarship programmes (including medical studies in India), and empowerment drives providing cash grants and work tools to thousands.

PWI also lauded Senator Ipalibo Banigo, Chair of the Senate Committee on Health (Secondary & Tertiary), for championing girl-child education, maternal health, and healthcare affordability.

“In an era demanding results over rhetoric, Senators Ekpenyong, Musa, and Banigo exemplify legislative service that bridges constituency needs with national progress,” Yerima said.
