The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the reintroduction of Management Degree Programmes at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), marking a major academic breakthrough for the institution after several years of suspension.

The approval follows a successful resource assessment visit by the NUC to the university, which verified the institution’s readiness to resume the programmes.

Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations of the Institution,Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide disclosed that the commission approved four undergraduate programmes — B.Sc. Accounting, B.Sc. Banking and Finance, B.Sc. Business Administration, and B.Sc. Economics — as well as a newly introduced postgraduate programme in M.Sc. Agroecology.

Olajide described the development as “a significant milestone in the university’s continuous commitment to academic excellence and institutional growth,” noting that the approval would expand the scope of FUNAAB’s academic offerings and enhance its contribution to national development.

The reintroduction of the programmes comes eight years after they were delisted in the 2017/2018 academic session, following a Federal Government directive that restricted agricultural universities from running Management Science courses.

Reacting to the development, the university community has expressed excitement, describing the NUC’s approval as a validation of FUNAAB’s evolving vision.

“In 2021, the University Senate had renamed the College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) to the College of Entrepreneurial and Development Studies (COLENDS) to align with its broader mandate of promoting entrepreneurship and development-oriented education”.

With this development, FUNAAB is set to commence admissions into the newly reintroduced degree programmes under COLENDS for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Olajide added, “This approval underscores FUNAAB’s readiness to deliver high-quality education across diverse disciplines while maintaining its leadership role in agricultural and developmental studies.”

The development is expected to attract more students and strengthen FUNAAB’s standing among Nigeria’s leading universities pursuing integrated education that blends agriculture, entrepreneurship, and management sciences.
