Oil theft: Army arrests 28, recovers 290,000 litres of stolen products in N’Delta

• ‘Ijaw will no longer resort to violence in pursuit of justice’

Troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have arrested 28 suspected oil thieves and deactivated four illegal refining sites.  

The operations, conducted between October 6 and 19, 2025, also resulted in the seizure of over 290,000 litres of stolen products across the region.
 
The military operations were carried out across multiple states in the Niger Delta, with several successes recorded in Rivers State. 
 
During the operations, troops intercepted two wooden boats at Okrika in Okrika Local Council while loading Premium Motor Spirit from a vessel offloading the product at a jetty. 
 
Also, two boats were intercepted, with one loaded with over 33,000 litres of stolen products at a jetty in Okrika, and another wooden boat loaded with over 5,000 litres of stolen products.
 
According to the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations Officer, Lt.-Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the operations were part of the ongoing Anti-Crude Oil Theft operations in the Niger Delta Region.

Meanwhile, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) has assured that the Ijaw nation will no longer resort to militancy and violence as an option in pursuit of justice and its course.
 
National President of INC, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, said, the era of violence is gone, disclosing that it was time for the Ijaw people to intellectually fight and get results from their struggles.
 
Okaba also said the INC, which is a liberation movement, would not be silenced but continue to speak out against oppression and denial by government on the Ijaw to control their resources.
 
He stated this, at the weekend, during the inauguration of the Eastern Zone Executives in Port Harcourt City Local Council of the state.
 
The INC President maintained that the national executive is strategising on how to confront the issues of marginalisation against the Ijaw over the years.
