The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with global tech leader Cisco, has opened applications for free online cybersecurity courses.
This, according to NITDA, is a step towards the 2025 Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The programme was announced on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
The initiative aims to equip individuals with essential digital skills to combat the increasing cyber threats facing Nigeria and the world.
Applications are open until 31 October, offering a timely opportunity for enthusiasts and professionals alike to enhance their expertise.
Meanwhile, the programme is not an isolated effort but part of NITDA’s broader mission to foster technological advancement and digital literacy across the country.
Established to bridge the digital gap, NITDA has consistently worked to integrate technology into Nigeria’s socio-economic fabric, partnering with international firms like Cisco to deliver high-quality training.
CISCO is a global expertise in networking and cybersecurity, and this, according to NITDA, aligns with the agency’s goal to build a resilient digital workforce.
This year’s focus on cybersecurity reflects the growing urgency to address cybercrime, which has surged globally, with Nigeria losing billions of naira annually to such attacks, according to recent reports.
The online courses are designed to cater to a wide audience, from beginners to seasoned professionals. They are being offered free of charge as part of the October Cybersecurity Awareness Month celebrations.
This annual campaign, observed worldwide, seeks to raise awareness about the importance of cyber hygiene and safe online practices—themes encapsulated in the hashtags.

The training runs concurrently with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed earlier this year with SecDojo, a French cybersecurity training company, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s cybersecurity landscape.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the NITDA DG, Inuwa, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, describing it as a key milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward a secure digital future.
“We just signed an MOU with SecDojo, which is a cybersecurity capacity-building provider, and this is one of our efforts to strengthen our national cybersecurity to enhance our cyber resilience,” he noted.
He asserted that as Nigeria continues its digital transformation journey, investing in human capital is paramount, describing people as the technology component of any innovation ecosystem.
Inuwa also noted the growing global demand for cybersecurity professionals and emphasised Nigeria’s potential to fill the talent gap, given its large and youthful population.
“Globally, we have the gap, and in Nigeria, we have a young population that if we harness well, we can train them and connect them with the global value chain to provide cybersecurity services and also to fill some roles and gaps in the global cybersecurity market,” he said.
