Ibadan Tech Expo 2025: AI engineer, Muritadha, honoured for innovation, social impact

Software and AI Engineer, Maryam Muritadha, has been honoured with the Distinguished Tech Innovation Award at the Ibadan Tech Expo 2025, held on Saturday at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

Maryam, who could not attend the event due to professional commitments abroad, was represented by her sister, Misturah Muritadha, who received the award on her behalf.

Speaking at the event, Misturah expressed her sister’s gratitude and reaffirmed her dedication to using technology as a tool for social impact and sustainable development.

Speaking on behalf of her sister, she said, “It is such an honour to receive the Distinguished Tech Innovation Award on behalf of my sister, Maryam, at the Ibadan Tech Expo. To her, technology has always been more than code. It’s a tool to solve real-world problems, empower communities, and inspire change. We’ve all seen this through her work, volunteering efforts, and her favourite, the sensitisation tours, across secondary schools in Ibadan. Though she couldn’t be there, her impact continues to inspire many, and I’m so proud to see her efforts recognised. Thank you.”

The organisers of the Ibadan Tech Expo said the recognition was a conscious effort to celebrate individuals making significant contributions to Nigeria’s technology ecosystem and positioning the country as a hub of innovation on the continent.

According to them, “The Distinguished Tech Innovation Award is our way of rewarding the hard work and vision of exceptional talents like Maryam Muritadha, whose work reflects innovation, inclusion, and impact in the tech space. She represents the new face of Nigerian technology — bold, visionary, and community-driven.”

Maryam, who currently serves as a Product Developer at Morphologic UK, is known for building data-driven and AI-powered solutions across FinTech, EduTech, Retail, and E-Commerce sectors. Over the years, she has collaborated with several international teams to design systems that simplify financial processes, enhance digital education, and promote inclusive access to technology.

Her advocacy for women in STEM has also made her a mentor to many young Nigerians, especially girls aspiring to pursue careers in software engineering and artificial intelligence. Through her regular outreach programmes and school tours, she encourages students to view technology not just as a career path, but as a means to create societal value.

The Ibadan Tech Expo is an annual technology conference and exhibition that brings together innovators, startups, and industry leaders across Nigeria. Launched in 2023, the event aims to foster collaboration, showcase innovation, and promote digital growth in Southwest Nigeria. It features panel sessions, masterclasses, exhibitions, and award presentations.

Since its inception, the expo has grown into one of the largest tech gatherings in Ibadan, attracting thousands of participants each year, including entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, and government representatives. The 2025 edition focused on advancing local innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and sustainable business models for emerging markets.

By recognising professionals like Maryam Muritadha, organisers say they hope to inspire more young Nigerians to innovate fearlessly and use technology as a force for progress.
