Tinubu celebrates longtime ally Senator Abu Ibrahim at 80

President Bola Tinubu has paid a glowing tribute to his longtime friend and political ally, Senator Abu Ibrahim, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, describing him as a principled statesman, a courageous democrat, and a steadfast patriot.

In a heartfelt message, President Tinubu reflected on their enduring friendship, which began in the Senate chambers during the aborted Third Republic in 1992, when both men served on opposing political platforms but shared a common passion for democracy and good governance.

“Abu has been more than a friend. He is my brother,” the President said. “Since we first met in 1992, our friendship and political partnership, rooted in shared ideals of justice, good governance, and democratic advancement, have only grown deeper and stronger.

“Tinubu hailed Senator Ibrahim’s unwavering commitment to democracy and his courageous role in opposing military dictatorship following the annulment of the June 12, 1993, election.

“He stood in the line of fire when we reconvened the Senate in Lagos to denounce the annulment and demand an end to military rule. Our defiance led to our detention, but when he was released, Abu refused to leave, insisting that we all be freed together,” Tinubu recalled.

He described Senator Ibrahim’s political journey, from representing Katsina South Senatorial District to helping found the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a reflection of his deep convictions and loyalty to Nigeria’s democratic progress.

“Within the APC, Abu’s consistent advocacy for peace and national unity stands out. He remains a trusted ally whose wisdom and patriotism continue to inspire,” the President said.Tinubu also expressed appreciation for Senator Ibrahim’s continued support for his administration and his contributions to the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that his ideas and encouragement have been invaluable.

“I thank Senator Ibrahim for his steadfast friendship and his support for our shared vision of Nigeria’s economic recovery and renewed prosperity,” the President added.Tinubu joined family, friends, and associates in celebrating the octogenarian, praying for many more years of good health, wisdom, and strength as he continues his service to the nation and humanity.
