Michika monarch pledges partnership with NDLEA

The Mbege Ka Michika of Adamawa State, His Royal Majesty Prof Bulus Luka Gadiga, has commended the leadership qualities of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd).

He assured the agency of his kingdom’s readiness to collaborate with the NDLEA in the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

The royal father gave the commendation on Monday when he led members of his council on a courtesy visit to Marwa, an indigene of Michika, at the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja.

He praised Marwa for his contributions to the development of Michika through infrastructure projects and scholarship programmes, expressing gratitude for his efforts in combating illicit drugs.

“I appreciate all the support you have given us and express our support for the agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to eradicate illicit drugs, which you have been doing very effectively. Your efforts are visible for all to see, and we’re grateful to God for the leadership qualities He has bestowed on you that have made you a household name not only in our kingdom but all over Nigeria,” he said.

The monarch added that the Michika community would continue to rely on Marwa’s experience and administrative acumen to drive local development and youth empowerment.

He disclosed that, as part of efforts to partner with the NDLEA, letters had been sent to churches and mosques warning that the kingdom would not tolerate drug abuse or trafficking. He added that the community was open to more collaboration with the agency on sensitisation and enforcement of drug laws.

In his remarks, Marwa congratulated the monarch on his appointment to the throne and expressed appreciation for being among the first indigenes to be honoured with a chieftaincy title.

He described drug abuse as a national challenge requiring collective effort. “We appreciate the support that Your Majesty has rendered and continues to render to the NDLEA Command in Michika in various ways, especially in logistics. We hope this example can be copied by other royal fathers,” Marwa said.

He appealed to youths to stay away from illicit drugs and urged the monarch to establish a drug control committee within his domain to work closely with the NDLEA.

Members of the monarch’s entourage included General Bitrus Kangye (rtd), Ambassador Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir, Dr John Quaghe, and Halima Buba.
