Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has signed the 2026 budget into law.
The signing ceremony was held at the council chamber of the Government House, Minna, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

The total sum of the 2026 budget passed and signed was over N 1,073 trillion, as opposed to more than N 1.031 trillion presented by the governor, indicating an upward review.
In the signed 2026 budget, Capital Expenditure stands at over N 783 billion, while Recurrent Expenditure exceeds N 290 billion.

Governor Bago lauded the 10th Niger State House of Assembly lawmakers for working around the clock to ensure the timely passage of the 2026 budget estimate.

Bago had scored the 10th State Assembly members 100 per cent, saying the speed at which the leadership and members of the legislature respond to the demands of the Executive Arm of government is unprecedented, describing it as the beauty of democracy.

The governor singled out the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Planning, Hajiya Aishat Teni Usman, and applauded her and her team for their unwavering efforts in planning the budget.
Bago, however, assured that the budget will be implemented to achieve the desired objectives.

Earlier, the Speaker of the 10th State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, praised the governor and his team for producing a budget estimate he described as “the best,” noting that it was easy to scrutinise and that the MDAs provided maximum cooperation, making the screening a hitch-free exercise.

Sarkin Daji commended the governor for his hard work and perseverance in providing good governance, and reassured the Assembly of its continued synergy with the Executive Arm in making the state better.
