• NANS extols PPRO
As Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of the Saviour, Jesus Christ, the State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has reminded Nigerians to use the occasion to embrace the enduring values of love, peace, sacrifice, and goodwill to all.
Similarly, Ikioye, while speaking at the Command’s successful 2025 Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons and End-of-Year Party held at Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of the State, yesterday, commended outstanding officers of the Command for their dedication, professionalism, and gallantry in crime fighting, as well as the recognition of key stakeholders for their continued support and cooperation with the police, bringing together an atmosphere of celebration, reflection, and appreciation.
Orutugu pointed out that these value systems align perfectly with the chosen theme for today’s event, “Policing: A Shared Responsibility.” Security cannot be achieved by the Police alone; it requires the collective efforts of government, security agencies, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious bodies, youth groups, the media, and every law-abiding citizen.
In his Christmas message, Orutugu spoke of the necessity for the State Command and sister agencies, as well as vigilance groups, traditional rulers, religious and community leaders, to unite, sacrifice, and love one another in order to achieve greater security in the State.
He said: “May the joy, peace, and blessings of the Christmas season abide with you and your families, and may the New Year usher in greater security, prosperity, and harmony to Anambra State.
“As we celebrate the festive season, I want to reassure residents and visitors that the Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has intensified patrols and surveillance across the state. Strategic locations, worship centres, markets, highways, and recreational areas are being adequately covered to ensure a peaceful celebration.
“However, I must emphasize that security is everyone’s responsibility. I therefore call on all residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of security efforts.
Report suspicious movements or activities promptly to the nearest police station or through the designated emergency lines. Together, we can sustain the peace we desire.
“As we look forward to the year 2026, let us renew our collective commitment to unity, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence.
The Anambra State Police Command remains dedicated to professionalism, accountability, and community-friendly policing.”
He sincerely appreciated the Government and good people of Anambra State, the sister security agencies, Anambra State Police Management Team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Teams, operatives of other sister agencies, as well as those in the Joint Security Task Force, and most importantly the operatives of Agunechemba.
“…Despite the challenges we faced, the Command remained resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property.
Through intelligence-led policing, joint operations, community engagement, and proactive patrols, we have continued to improve our security architecture. These achievements would not have been possible without timely information and the trust reposed in us by Ndi Anambra.
“These officers demonstrated uncommon bravery and tactical efficiency while responding promptly to a reported incident, thereby denying armed hoodlums the space they enjoy to commit havoc, and recovering arms, stolen money, and other incriminating items. Their actions reflect the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and underscore the importance of discipline, dedication, and service to the public.”
The spotlight at the event was on the honour bestowed on the Commander of the State-controlled Homeland Security Squad, otherwise called Agunechemba Vigilante Squad, Prince Ken Emeakayi Emeakayi, for outstanding collaboration and support in maintaining security across the state.
Also recognized was the Majority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, as the Best Supportive Stakeholder, while a philanthropist, Hon. Ambrose Obinna Onuzulike, received an award for selfless service and consistent support to the Police.
Equally honoured by the State Command was the Commander of Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugu-Ukwu, CSP Ayuba Ahmadu, as the Best Crime Fighter of the Year. He also received wider recognition at the national level by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for his exceptional contributions to crime control in the student environment.
Similarly, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was recognized by the Senate Arm of NANS as the Best Student-Friendly Police Public Relations Officer, in appreciation of his professionalism and effective police–public engagement.
Furthermore, the State Command commended Inspector Okoma Ewa, Corporal Chawalamoke Godsfavour, and Constable Emekwisore Ifeanyi for their exceptional display of courage, swift response to an incident, and high level of professionalism in the line of duty.
