Ondo govt unveils 50th anniversary activities

The Ondo State Government, at the weekend, unveiled a week-long series of activities and a programme to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.

While stressing that the golden jubilee celebration is poised to blend historical reflection with a vision for sustainable development, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, who chairs the anniversary committee, stated that the celebrations will honour the state’s past.
 
According to Fasoranti, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, the celebration will also position the state for future prosperity, adding that the events will run from Thursday, January 29, to Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Meanwhile, a public lecture titled ‘Ondo State: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’ will be delivered by the  Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, on Monday,  February 2, at The Dome in Akure. The lecture will be chaired by legal luminary Wole Olanipekun.
 
The statement reads in part: “The public lecture is conceived as a critical intellectual engagement aimed at examining the historical foundations of Ondo State, evaluating its current socio-economic trajectory, and offering strategic perspectives on sustainable development in the decades ahead.

It will bring together policymakers, academics, professionals, traditional institutions, socio-political groups, and other stakeholders from across the state and beyond.
 
“Prof. Oyedele is a highly respected economist, tax expert, and public policy authority with extensive experience in fiscal governance and national economic reforms. His leadership of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee places him at the centre of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public finance, economic resilience, and inclusive growth.”
