Tinubu committed to tackling insecurity, infrastructural growth in Kano — Gov Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf

President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to addressing banditry and security threats affecting parts of Kano.

He also pledged to complement the state government’s efforts to accelerate sustainable infrastructural growth under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.

Governor Yusuf said President Tinubu gave the assurance during a strategic meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Monday.

According to Governor Yusuf, the Federal Government expressed readiness to support Kano in various priority areas affecting social and economic development in the state.

In a release by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf sought the President’s support and cooperation to fast-track federal projects and ensure Kano benefits maximally from federal programmes and investments.

The release disclosed that Yusuf also formally briefed the President on pressing challenges and opportunities in Kano, particularly the worsening insecurity in some local government areas.

“Governor Yusuf informed President Tinubu about the recent tragic killing of a housewife and her children, stressing the need for decisive federal support to strengthen security operations and protect innocent citizens.

“The governor highlighted the role of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in complementing security agencies and called for deeper collaboration with federal security institutions.

“Governor Yusuf also discussed Kano’s development agenda, with special focus on mega infrastructure projects. He used the opportunity to thank the President for federal intervention on the Wujuwuju Road, describing it as a critical step to unlocking economic growth and job creation,” Sanusi said.

Although the statement was silent on the political permutations surrounding the visit, there are indications that Governor Yusuf’s meeting was strategic, ahead of his preparatory defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Yusuf is expected to flag off the APC e-registration exercise in Kano, where he would lead mass members of the Kwankwasiyya movement into the party.

The exercise, which was originally scheduled to start earlier, was placed on hold on the directive of President Tinubu, pending the proper initiation of the Governor’s defection to APC.
