The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Abubakar Sadiq, over the murder of his elder brother, Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga, in Gombi Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest followed what the police described as a major operational breakthrough by operatives attached to the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, who acted in collaboration with professional hunters as part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crimes, including culpable homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms.
Police said the suspect, a resident of Boga Village in Gombi Local Government Council, was arrested in connection with the killing, which occurred on January 20, 2026. During interrogation, Abubakar Sadiq allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crime, admitting that he conspired with five other individuals to kill his elder brother.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the suspect disclosed that the murder was planned for a promised sum of ₦2 million, but he received an advance payment of ₦130,000.
The suspect reportedly stated that his role in the plot was to monitor the movements of the deceased and provide information on his whereabouts to the attackers.
“I was told to watch my elder brother and inform them whenever he was at home or moving around,” the suspect was quoted as saying. “After I received the alert of money in my bank account, I agreed. I regret my actions deeply. I sold out my own blood brother for ₦130,000, and I am truly sorry.”
He further revealed that he was later invited to a meeting in a thick bush where the final arrangements for the killing were concluded.
Items recovered during the operation include one AK-47 rifle, one locally made single-barrel rifle, one Dane gun, and 24 rounds of live ammunition.
Reacting to the development, Nguroje confirmed that the prime suspect is currently in police custody and that investigations are ongoing. He added that two members of the alleged criminal gang were killed in a gun battle with security operatives while attempting to resist arrest, while two others escaped and are currently being tracked.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime.
