President Bola Tinubu has expressed heartfelt condolences to Super Eagles forward, Samuel Chukwueze, following the death of his mother, Mrs Sarah Chukwueze.
In a message of sympathy, the President extended his condolences to the entire Chukwueze family, as well as relatives and friends, noting that Mrs Chukwueze passed away on Thursday.
He said he shares in the family’s grief and urged them to draw strength and comfort from the enduring memories, values and legacy of their late matriarch.
President Tinubu described the loss as particularly painful, coming shortly after the recent bereavement suffered by Super captain, Wilfred Ndidi, who also lost his father.
“The passing of Mrs Chukwueze, the mother of one of our bright football stars, just a few days after the passing of the Super Eagles’ captain’s father, is deeply saddening. I mourn with the Chukwueze family and assure them of my prayers during this difficult time,” the President said.
He prayed that God grants the departed eternal rest and gives the Chukwueze family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
President Tinubu had similarly, last week, sent condolences to Wilfred Ndidi following the passing of his father, Sunday Ndidi, who reportedly died in a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State.
In that condolence message, the President said he was deeply saddened by the tragic loss, noting that the late Sunday Ndidi played a significant role in shaping the values and career of his son.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable journey as an exceptional footballer,” the President said.
He further remarked that the late Ndidi’s modest background, integrity and strong sense of responsibility left a lasting impression on all who knew him and those who looked up to him for inspiration.
The President prayed for divine comfort for the Ndidi family and asked God Almighty to grant eternal rest to the soul of the departed.
Wilfred Ndidi is a Nigerian international footballer who plays professionally in Türkiye.
He made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2015 and has earned over 65 caps. Ndidi captained the national team to a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025 and featured at the FIFA World Cup in 2018, as well as multiple AFCON tournaments.
David Chukwueze shared a series of emotional Instagram posts announcing his mother Mrs. Sarah Chukwueze’s passing on January 29, 2026, and paid tribute to her.
In one post, he wrote: “Can’t even post your picture to say RIP mum. My forever love just left me without saying goodbye.”
He added: “You didn’t even carry your grandchild,” expressing profound grief over the sudden loss.
