A new documentary examining the life of American rap icon Earl “DMX” Simmons is set to premiere on YouTube, offering an intimate, family-centred account of the man behind one of hip-hop’s most distinctive voices.
Titled X vs. Earl: The Simmons Family Speaks, the documentary will be released on the Antoinette Media YouTube Channel. Unlike previous films and projects about the rapper, the documentary focuses on the private side of DMX, told through the voices of his family members.

According to the producers, the documentary explores DMX’s life beyond music and celebrity, highlighting his struggles, faith, pain, and personal growth. It aims to show who Earl Simmons was away from the spotlight, using first-hand reflections from those closest to him.
The documentary does not yet have an official release date, but it is expected to premiere soon on YouTube via Antoinette Media Studios.
One of the most emotional moments in the film comes from DMX’s ex-wife, Tashera Simmons, who reflects on their relationship and his final days. She says the public never truly knew the man behind the image.
“You all never knew Earl, I know that for a fact,” she says in the documentary.
Tashera also recounts her last conversation with the rapper, sharing words that have resonated deeply with fans since his death.
“Our last conversation we had, he told me, ‘My vessel is tired, but my word will live on forever. And now, I am going home to be with my father,’” she said.
DMX died on 9 April 2021 at the age of 50, after suffering a heart attack linked to a drug overdose.
Beyond his public struggles, the documentary highlights DMX as a husband, father, brother and friend, offering context to the emotional intensity that defined both his music and his life.
