Youth ministry secures overseas scholarship for correctional centre’s ward

Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has secured an overseas scholarship for one of its wards at the Correctional Centre for Junior Boys, Birrel, Sabo, Yaba.

The scholarship, offered by an anonymous sponsor, was awarded to Fatai Bello, a 17-year-old boy that has been under the care of the Lagos State Government since 2014.

Speaking at a brief ceremony held at Alausa with the benefactor, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, described the gesture as commendable, noting that education remains a key tool in empowering vulnerable children. He called on more individuals and organisations to partner with government in supporting such initiatives.

The Permanent Secretary, Pharm. Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, appreciated the sponsor for supporting Fatai Bello from the basic education level through to tertiary education.  She highlighted his academic journey, noting that he completed his studies in 2025 with good results. Fatai Bello will be studying Medicine in Malaysia under the scholarship.
