A member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Dukku/Nafada constituency, Abdullahi El-Rasheed, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
El-Rasheed, who is the Deputy Chairman House Committee on Federal Capital Territory Area Councils, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the chairman of the party in his Waziri North ward, Dukku Local Government, Gombe State, dated February 1, 2026, and obtained by our correspondent on Saturday.
According to him, his decision was made in view of the internal crisis, factionalism, and the endless leadership tussle rocking the PDP. He said such issues in the party can affect his effective representation.
“At certain stages in life and in response to the evolving dynamics of national and political affairs, leaders are compelled to make decisions not for personal benefit but in the collective interest of the people they are entrusted to serve.
“In order to sustain this level of effective representation, it has become imperative to critically examine recent political developments across the country, particularly the persistent internal crisis, factionalisation and leadership tussles within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Consequently, I embarked on an extensive consultation with party stakeholders, political aides, ward coordinators across the 21 wards of Dukku and Nafada Local Government Areas, as well as family, friends and supporters, especially as the 2027 general elections approach.
“The outcome of these consultations overwhelmingly indicated the need to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and align with the All Progressives Congress (APC)“, he said.
He added that the decision was driven by his desire to align with the federal and state governments to enhance effective governance and bring the dividends of democracy closer to his people.
