The Yobe State Police Command said efforts are ongoing to arrest an 18-year-old housewife, Khadija Jamilu, for allegedly inflicting severe injuries on the genitals of her 25-year-old husband (name withheld) with a knife in Potiskum Local Council of the state.

The command said the incident occurred on Friday during a domestic dispute between the couple in Potiskum.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed yesterday in Damaturu that the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call at 3:00 p.m., reporting that the incident had occurred earlier at 1:00 a.m. in the community.

Abdulkarim said police operatives promptly rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention. He added that the victim was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, Bauchi State, where he is receiving treatment for the injuries sustained.

According to him, “Khadija fled immediately after the attack and continues to remain at large since last Friday.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect, while investigation into the incident continues.”

The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the violent act and urged families in the community to desist from resolving marital disputes through violence and sexual assault.

He said marriages should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience and tolerance, and not become avenues for violence or abuse among spouses. Ado further advised couples to seek counselling and embrace peaceful dialogue by engaging parents, religious leaders or trusted mediators when conflicts escalate.
