THE first seating for the year 2026 by members of theEdo State House Assembly was stalled yesterday due to the discovery of bullets and gunshot holes.
There was palpable tension in the hollow chambers due to the gunshots as members arrived for the plenary session
Briefing journalists, the Majority Leader, Jonathan Ebamewu, said the incident is being investigated by security agencies, and the sitting had been postponed till further notice.
He said: “We were ready for seating today (yesterday) and our attention was called to the fact that there was an incident here, so I have informed Commissioner of Police and the DSS, and we have left everything to them to investigate and give us a complete report as to what gave rise to what we are talking about.
“For now, everything is fine and we are eager to start our sitting today, but unfortunately, because of the incident, we were unable to meet today. We want to give the chambers to security agents to comb it properly and for them to give a report that will be satisfying to everybody.
“However, be assured that everything is calm in the House and we are not distracted. We will certainly come back to do our normal routine sitting.”
As at press time, men of the Edo State Police command were already combing the hallowed chamber.
