Nigerian Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has apologised to gospel artiste Tosinbee after mistakenly identifying him as the son of a lawyer involved in his ongoing custody dispute with Sophia Momodu over their daughter, Imade Adeleke.

The incident unfolded on social media shortly after Davido announced that he had decided to withdraw his custody case. In a series of posts on his social media handles, the Afrobeats star expressed frustration over the legal battle and criticised a lawyer he accused of mentioning his deceased son during court proceedings.

In one of the posts, Davido appeared to direct his anger at Tosinbee, whose real name is Adejumobi Oluwatoyin, suggesting that the gospel singer was the lawyer’s son. The singer wrote: “And she has a son .. Tosin you will live long amen with the rubbish u Dey sing … so ur son nah musician Bella Chukwu u know even get sense .. make we help am. Useless.”

Shortly afterwards, Tosinbee took to his Instagram page to clarify the situation. In a calm response, he distanced himself from the dispute and explained that Davido had mistaken his identity.

“Hello Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made, as a matter of fact, my mum went to be with the lord 8 years ago. I guess this is a case of mistaken identity. So sorry you had to deal with this…but my prayers are with you. I love you brother,” he wrote.

Davido later responded in the comment section with a brief apology: “I apologize! My bad G.”

The apology comes amid heightened emotions surrounding the custody dispute between Davido and Sophia Momodu.

Davido’s legal team maintained that he had consistently met his obligations, including paying school fees and providing accommodation and transport. Momodu, however, argued that he had been absent from their daughter’s life and had failed to meet certain financial responsibilities. Her legal representatives also raised concerns about his lifestyle and frequent travel.

Yesterday, Davido announced on his social media handles that he had decided to discontinue the case. He stated that he never sought full custody but only joint care of his daughter, adding that there was “nothing to celebrate” in the dispute.

Imade Adeleke, born on May 14, 2015, is the first daughter of Davido and Sophia Momodu.
