NFF considers new coaches for national teams

Ogunmodede eyes Flying Eagles job
The NFF Technical Committee is soon to discuss the appointment of coaches for the vacant positions of various teams, The Guardian has learnt.

Apart from the Super Eagles, whose coach, Eric Chelle, is expected to stay with the team, some other teams, including the National U-20 team- the Flying Eagles, national U-17 team – the Golden Eaglets, and the women’s U-17 team, the Flamingos, are among those the NFF Technical Committee was expected to deliberate on in its meeting yesterday, in Abuja.

Coaches handling those national teams have completed their respective campaigns.

Coach Manu Garba failed to qualify the Golden Eaglets to the U17 AFCON after they were beaten in the WAFU B qualifiers, while coach Aliyu Zubairu led the Flying Eagles to the Round of 16 of the 2025 U20 World Cup in Chile.

Coach Bankole Olowokere again failed to meet expectations with the women’s U17 team, the Flamingos.
It was learnt yesterday that the committee had previously recommended to the NFF executive committee the need to have new coaches to lead these teams.

A member of the NFF Technical Committee was quoted as saying: “You have to give other coaches the chance to show what they can do with these teams. Some of these coaches have long overspent their time in the national teams.’’

Remo Stars coach and Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, is said to be aspiring to become the head coach of the Flying Eagles. He believes that he has gathered enough experience to lead the Flying Eagles.
