NOT satisfied with the Enyimba’s lacklustre performance thus far in the season, the Abia State government has beefed up the team’s technical crew with new officials.
Enyimba FC, two-time CAF Champions League winners, have been wobbling in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), losing key points at home and away.
The Peoples’ Elephants are currently 14th on the NPFL table with just 31 points, eight wins, and seven draws from 26 matches. To restore the club’s former glory, the government of Abia State, on Tuesday, made some crucial changes, including adding a new technical adviser and sporting director to its fold.
In a ceremony in Aba, Enyimba FC officially presented Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as its new technical adviser and Mr Daniel Eke as the sporting director.
The brief unveiling took place at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, with Abia State’s Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, and Sports Commissioner, Nwaobilor Nwadinma Ananaba, introducing the pair to players and staff.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of Governor Alex Otti, Emetu reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the club’s welfare and its ambition to keep Enyimba at the forefront of Nigerian football. He called for unity among players, coaches, and management, stressing that collective responsibility and discipline are key to restoring the club’s former glory.
Coach Emmanuel, who takes immediate charge of the technical setup, is expected to inject fresh ideas and renewed energy into the team.
Daniel Eke, who was formerly involved in scouting, will now shape the club’s sporting philosophy, recruitment strategy, and long-term development plans.
Both officials have already begun work, meeting players and backroom staff as preparations ramp up for Match Day 27 of the NPFL against Rivers United in Port Harcourt this Sunday.
However, The Guardian learnt yesterday that the appointments of new officials might affect Kanu’s chairmanship position of the club.
“I am sure the days of Nwankwo Kanu as chairman of Enyimba FC may be coming to an end with these new appointments,” a source close to the club told The Guardian.
