Ownership transition at IBEDC stirs fresh labour tension

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC )

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has vowed to resist the takeover of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) until all lingering labour issues are fully resolved.

Acting General Secretary, NUEE, Dominic Igwebike, in a letter tagged ‘Caveat Emptor’, drew the attention of the purported buyers of Ibadan Disco and the general public to the fact that there were several labour issues that the current owners and the management must resolve and fully settle before transferring ownership.

In the letter, the union declared that if the issues are not resolved and fully settled, it would vehemently resist the takeover of the franchise by the new buyers.

The union said if not, the owners would acquire both the assets and liabilities of the company.

The union warned that they should also be ready to settle the outstanding labour obligations to the letter as the acquisition transaction is going on.
