X users have reacted after Nigerian songwriter and music composer, Segun Akinolu, popularly known as Beautiful Nubia, accused gospel artistes, Yinka Ayefele and BBO, of stealing the melody of his song, Seven Lifes.

Beautiful Nubia made the allegation in a post on his X page on Thursday, saying Ayefele’s My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti) released in 2012 and BBO’s Amin released this year copied his work.

He wrote, “There was Yinka Ayefele with “My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)” in 2012 and now someone called BBO with “Amin” this year. Both stole their melodies from our original song “Seven Lifes”. When will Nigerians (especially the so-called gospel musicians) learn to respect copyright?”

As the post gained attention, some users backed the singer’s position and urged legal action.

Abiola Shodiya (@AbiolaAbdul) wrote, “Call them out and and sue their asses. You’re a legend of the game and you need to eat the fruit of your labour. No one should disrespect your hard work.”

Corporatebaddieplus (@Xdayshere) said, “Beautiful Nubia no like wahala. But these people need to give honour to whom it’s due. These songs are clearly a sample of Seven lives. They are the original melodies of Beautiful Nubia.”

Abass (@jayebros) added, “Please speak out sir. Same thing they did to Goke Bajowa’s classic.”

However, other users disagreed and argued that similarities do not automatically mean plagiarism.
Adekanmbi (@samueldare2002) wrote, “Stole your melody? I disagree. In literature, we have the theory of Intertextuality which if deployed in this context means every melody is a product of other (past) melodies.”

Child HealthHero (@ChildHealthhero) also said, “Many people feel similarities between songs, but that doesn’t necessarily mean one copied the other. Artists know better than to plagiarize music.”

David Daveed (@DaveedTolu) wrote, “So you think if we play the whole song in dis world You still think you own the melody? Its inspiration baba me You weren’t the first to use it and definitely you won’t be d last”

Meanwhile, Winzy (@Winzystudios) claimed he checked the songs after seeing the post.

He wrote, “Wanted to confirm this. I searched Igbagbo Ireti, couldn’t find the one by YA but BBO’s Amin showed in the search. I played and heard it lol.”

Ayefele’s My Faith in God is listed as a track on his Goodness of God release dated December 9, 2012.

BBO’s Amin (Amen) [Live] is listed with a January 10, 2026 release date on major platforms.
