Zulum vows to tackle insecurity in Borno

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackle the outstanding security challenges and complete ongoing capital projects by the end of his tenure in office in 2027.

The uncompleted projects in the health, education, agriculture, and the security sectors are sited in the South, Central and North Senatorial Districts of the state.

The governor made the pledges on Thursday during the first 2026 State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at the Government House, Maiduguri.

Addressing members of SEC, and other top government officials at the meeting, Zulum emphasised that 2026 would be a year of consolidations on the legacies of completed socio-economic development projects and programmes for the people.

He noted that while relative peace has been restored in many parts of the state, government will not as he described it, “relent in providing the needed security in the nooks and crannies of Borno.

Besides overcoming the outstanding security challenges, the governor added that the state government will focus on the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDP) by investing in medium- and long-term durable solutions that will be sustained by his successor in 2027.

The governor also noted that his administration will strengthen the social protection net, stating, “another sector that we will focus on is the social security. Social protection remains central to our agenda as we rebuild Borno for a better future. While we shall not relent in providing social amenities to the great people of the state, the need to provide social protection to our people cannot be over emphasised.”

The council meeting was attended by the Secretary to Borno State Government, Bukar Tijani, Acting Chief of Staff, Dr Babagana Mustapha Mallumbe, and other members of the executive council.
